Reviewer's comments
"Another Egyptian level. This one is very simple, you must look for some gems while killing skeletons and harpies, for which the crossbow is going to be very useful. The flare bug appeared at some point, but I didn't have to use flares much. There's also a battle with a demigod, and I think there was supposed to be another one judging by that butt you fill find in the same room where you kill him. Good but not very memorable." - alan (28-Oct-2022)
"Player-friendliness is usually regarded as a virtue; this one-off Cleopal level dares to ask the question whether a level can be too player-friendly. Designwise it’s solid if overall a little uninspired, and as regards gameplay, it definitely lacks challenge. Seemingly conceived with a view towards novice players who know nothing of TR, the level eschews the characteristic Cleopal assets (no black pyramid, Clockwork Beetle or golden Lara here) in favour of generic gameplay, provides you right at the start with not one but two crossbows to blast any foe to kingdom come, and asks you to perform a few simple jumps, climb a few ladders and the like, nothing fancy. So you’ll breeze through this on autopilot, except you may miss one or the other of several Gems required for progression, in which case you have to backtrack in search of it before you can make it through the final door. The level is small, compact and easy to navigate, so the backtracking isn’t too painful, but it’s not something that makes for a satisfying finale. There’s a floating butt in the throne room, and the demigod in there is triggered only if you go near the throne, which isn’t required for progression. It’s all very achievable, probably a little boring for most, but short and might serve as a pleasant enough inbetweener." - Mulf (09-Jul-2021)
"Fairly short level type Cleopatra, we quickly find the crossbow with explosive arrows, which is very useful afterwards. It is a succession of research of gems, this level is very simple, the texturing is not perfect." - Drakan (19-Nov-2018)
"This is a straightforward take on Cleopatra's Palaces, lasting about 20 minutes. It's very straightforward with no real puzzles or standout moments, but it moves along at a fair pace, with a few easy tasks to overcome to collect a few gems, plus the requisite added bonus of a couple of harpies and lots of skeletons to blow up. The settings, although rather similar-looking after a while, look solid, and this might be a good introduction to raiding for beginners. Very playable." - Ryan (29-Oct-2017)
"A fairly average half-hour romp through another classic-styled Egyptian tomb, that tries to make the most out of the 'Cleopatra's Palace' assets and somewhat succeeds(even if all rooms feel incredibly empty and relatively samey-looking & the gameplay essentially a cakewalk from beginning to end(with your pistols and crossbow in hand), as you briefly backtrack from one sub-room to the next for gemstones required to progress onward, blowing up skeletons, harpies and a Guardian as you go). Sure, the water textures don't animate, lighting is pretty middle of the road, some sound effects are missing, there's one instance of an absent enemy(implicated by Lara's posterior) and the level itself ends rather abruptly. But if you're looking for something simple to pass the time, this is one I easily recommend." - Ceamonks890 (22-Oct-2017)
"Linear and lively, this is a well made, if not exactly opulent, take on the cleopal genre. The gameplay is simple, exploration based to find a series of gems and blow up quite a few skeletons. There are also a couple of harpies and a demigod rounding out the enemies. No puzzles or timed runs to liven things up, but it's pleasant enough if you feel like an easy ride." - Jay (23-Aug-2016)
"This time I'm surprised, as usual, but now for the very low ratings. Of course, this short level has not something special, some gems to collect, some skeletons and a demigod to shoot and some traps to avoid. But the gameplay is not so bad; easy tasks, enough guns and ammo to deal with the enemies and no much backtracking. Also the texturization and the lights are well worked. Not a masterpiece, of course, but playable and enjoyable." - Jose (31-Jan-2016)
"Well this was fast.. it was an easy level to play but really enjoyable.. Just a straight forward Tomb Raider experience. The textures and ambient was quite pleasant and the plataforming was basic but quite fun. The lightning was a bit crappy to be honest, to much dark areas and textures that shouldn't be. The random "Golden Ass" from Lara was hilarious and I'm still questioning my self where is Von Croy to help me after that random music. One thing that bother me a bit was the fact that you have to much explosive arrows, killing the Skeleton is easier than to kill a tiger with duals.. You can "one shot" everything.. And that's sad Still, quite fun and recommended" - Leeth (04-Sep-2015)
"It's an average level, in all it's aspects: average difficulty, average puzzles, average textures etc. However it never failed to please me, as i was entertained throughout the level all the time. Yes the puzzles are pretty basic and straight forward but it manages to amuse me in a good way, but not too much. The lightening can be a bummer sometimes, as it can be really dark and all of the sudden a very bright light appears. In the first room the textures seem a bit out of place, but on the rest of the game the whole atmosphere seems just fine. Not to mention the random "lara's ass" on Cleopatra's tomb (i assume it's her tomb)! As i said above, this level deserves an average score." - Zhyttya (04-Sep-2015)
"When Kleopatra had built these rooms, she had to have been scarcely with cash. Though one can see a few nice columns, but otherwise the equipment is completely absent. However, it could also be that the grave robbers were here already once and have taken everything. On the whole the level was quite well-arranged. The inclined player had to find a few precious stones, open a few doors and fight against two harpies and many skeletons. However, with the shotgun and the explosive ammunition this was generally no problem. If you have occasionally half an hour of time, you can have a look at this nice level sometimes" - Scottie (17-Feb-2010)
"This was as straightforward as they come. The author manages to provide you with everything necessary before you will get into any trouble, thus easily taking out any challenge the level might have provided. The crossbow with explosives is conveniently provided before you ever encounter an opponent, switches will unlock doors nearby, as will the numerous gems, which can be found before you need them easily. I was actually craving for some danger so much, that I tried to figure out if the hole switches that are guarded by the shooting flames served any purpose (they don't) and I eventually let the pursuing skeleton count accumulate till I simply had to dispose of them if I didn't want Lara's mobility to be limited. But 'easy' doesn't necessarily mean 'bad' and I can see this as being just about the right thing for novice players to ease into for the 15 minutes of excitement it provides before all is said and done. The looks are decent enough, though they don't stand out for anything in particular, and I was a bit disappointed as I progressed as the initial rooms implied this might be one of those lush, greenery filled Cleopatra levels, but it wasn't. Overall, it by far is not a bad level, it'll just be hard to remember it for anything in particular a while after playing it." - eTux (07-Aug-2009)
"A very simple and straightforward, with the exception of one gem, Cleopal-WAD level. I came across a floating butt in my level, in the throne room, but nothing that'd change my ratings dramatically. You get lots of skeletons in your way, but you even get two Crossbows so it's really a walk in the park. And Michael - you forgot one Demigod in your enemy count LOL. 25 minutes. 08/07" - Treeble (13-Aug-2007)
"I thought this was a good little level lots of things to do for such a tiny download. It is straight forward and you're looking for lots of gems to place as you go along. Some nice rooms that looked good despite being very simply done. The only thing that puzzled me was the hall of flame emitters Lara did something at each one but I've no idea what these did. Whatever it was it didn't prevent me finishing the level. And in the throne room I saw a butt in mid air so I've no idea what that was supposed to be perhaps a demigod! You get two crossbows at the start which helped a lot with all the skeletons and a few harpys. Yes definitely worth getting this one for a quick run through level." - CC (15-Oct-2004)
"There are really only 2 things in this 20 minute romp through a quite uninspired looking tomb environment skeletons and gems and apart from the exploding of the skeletons and the finding and placing of the gems there really was a lack of anything else. I really would have liked to have liked this one a bit more but I couldn't." - Sash (02-Dec-2002)
"What's this? Orbit Dream playing a Cleopal level? How can this be? Well I'll tell you since you ask. You see my friend Marksdad is in the middle of building a fairly complex level with all sorts of custom textures and objects and things and he doesn't want to load up any other complicated Custom Level files which might mess up his work. All he wants for the time being are simple TOM files and nothing else. Subsequently his choice of available levels is becoming rather restricted; hence the Cleopal 'Tomb of Cleopatra'. And now the review itself. A couple of illegal slopes; a few dubious textures; annoying music loop at the finale; simple tasks. However fast-moving gameplay compensates. An average level but quite fun nonetheless." - Orbit Dream (19-Sep-2002)
"Like Matthias I too was short a gem as I got to the end and in backtracking encountered a demigod I had not seen previously. Surely after I blast this guy to kingdom come he'll give up the gem. You guessed it nope. So back I went almost all the way through with my trusty grandson at my side and lo and behold it was in the swimming area where I was to begin with. Sheesh. But this was still a pleasurable level the usual stuff jump switches climbing jumping. Few traps to be troubled with and skeletons being your main cause of concern but with the supply of not one but two crossbows how can you go wrong? Even with all that backtracking it still only took Daniel and myself 30 minutes." - Momster (19-Aug-2002)
"Right at the beginning you'll find the crossbow. In the next chamber you'll find another crossbow. It's quite simple to get the doors open. It's like a red arrow is pointing towards the triggers. You have to find a couple of crystals they are not really hidden. It would have been much better if everything was well hidden. You can avoid a spiketrap very easily as they are marked. A lava chamber with a stable bridge is no challenge either. Some rooms are very huge and empty. Textures are very well applied. All in all this level needs a bit more excitement but it's very well built." - Tombraidergirl (15-Jul-2002)
"Well Gunilla I guess I did rush as I only spent 20 minutes in this one J. Five gems 16 skeletons two harpies and a room with 5 reach in switches with fire - not much more to say." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"Another 'first level'. Quite alright but not much of a challenge. Open doors in Cleopatra's tomb find gems to open other doors. You get the crossbow twice (!) in the beginning so the skeletons you meet aren't any threat. 40 minutes (no rush I'm sure it can be done quicker) and no healthpacks used." - G.Croft (21-Jun-2002)
"Tomb of Cleopatra is an enjoyable and well-done level for a first try at the editor. Though nothing spectacular the rooms are quite attractive and well decorated. This twenty minute level is filled with easy puzzles mainly using gems and switches to open doors with a few nice underwater areas thrown in. I'm still a little confused about the reach in switches that emitted flames - I never activated them but still had no problem finishing the level. Maybe they led to a secret. There were few enemies mainly skeletons and with the two crossbows you find right away they were easy to destroy/avoid. The flare bug appears about halfway through but is never really a problem as there aren't any really dark areas. I recommend this if you're looking for a nice short level to play just for fun." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"A first by this author. Only bug I encountered is the flare bug. Not that you need that much but I needed to look through the binoculars and it threw me right to my desktop. I am still enjoying all the Egyptian levels so this one I had a great although very short time. Only weapon you need is the crossbow and you'll find it twice and more than enough ammo. You meet a lot of skeletons and two harpies. In the beginning you open 3 doors by pulling switches and look out for blocks to climb. Gameplay was very easy but hey; it is a first level. I encountered one butt (how strange as I also used the revised wads) in the throne room. 27-05-2002" - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"Very short simple level. Plenty of skeletons but also plenty of ammo supplied at the start. No difficulty." - Fairy Godfather (21-Jun-2002)
"Regarding the fact that this is obviously the first try of the author and that he built this level with only the standard cleopal wad it was quite okay. The gameplay is not that challenging enemies are easily to get rid off but the lighting is okay rooms are carefully textured a bit too huge and empty though. All in all I found it was an entertaining 30 minutes level of a promising newcomer." - Sheevah (21-Jun-2002)
"A quite good level with an Egyptian theme. Nicely done with shadows and although ordinary textures the rooms have the right atmosphere. Collecting gems from different parts of the level the player has to place them each time and proceed with cameras showing the next door opened. The holes on the wall with fire are used and also monkey swinging. Skeletons are chasing you through out it with the crossbow given. Unfortunately there is the flare bug not that it's so dark to have a big problem but it is still annoying. Anyway try it it's short but not bad at all." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002)
"Short level with hardly anything to mention. Mainly Lara finding items - what was I meant to do with the whole medipacks given the opponent's constellation? There I could defeat even the demigod without losing life energy. The rooms are big and empty puzzles completely uninteresting because there were no puzzles. The single plus are the textures which are processed relatively well. Finally there appeared even the torch bug. Sound and cameras are also a good but in short supply." - Xxenofex (21-Jun-2002)
"A short level of 15 minutes. On her way Lara has to find 5 blue gems to progress in her exploration. There is what seems to be a puzzle with 5 holes with fire: I have played the level twice and this puzzle seems to be quite useless very weird there is no change if you avoid to put your hand in the 5 holes or not. The texturing is good but the rooms are not very impressive. Skeletons to blow out and two harpies. The level is nice but there is really no challenge." - eRIC (21-Jun-2002)
"15 minutes into the game I made a mental note to start the review with: This level is as difficult as the title is original but then I found myself short of a gem and since the gameplay had been so linear it never occured to me that I had to go back right to the start to retrieve it. That was the hardest part otherwise it's fairly easy and the most memorable thing about this level is a really boring weapon/enemy constellation. Lashings of skeletons but plenty of explosives right from the start. The rooms are rather plain and kind of empty as well. Can't think of anything else to say here." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
