"This was, as far as I could tell, quite solidly built. Unfortunately, it's really rather gloomy so I could be wrong. Anyway, it's quite atmospheric and there are some good traps to negotiate along the way, plus a bit of simple ropework and a dragon and locusts at the end. It's a short level at around 35 minutes and moves along briskly, so you could do worse." - Jay (23-May-2019) |

"I assume that this earlier effort of the
builder provided the inspiration for the
later "The Silent Death" level released a
few months later, as you pretty much get
the same sort of layout: plenty of traps
and levers, not that many enemies, a
couple of simple mazes, a dragon sequence
and a dark, spooky environment to roam
around in. Not much in the way of puzzles
and it should only last you less than half
an hour. If you want a brisk workout, go
ahead, but if you want something a bit
more cerebral then this probably won't
appeal to you that much." - Ryan (21-Jan-2019) |

"I've always liked the Temple of Xian Textures and there are
not many Levels using them so i decided to try this level.
Gameplay was about a little bit of plattforming, avoiding
many traps and then there is the earthquake room with the
dragon where Gameplay could have been better in my opinion.
It was about pulling 4 levers to leave this room.
Otherwise there really was only 1 enemy (a bear).
Atmosphere was nice with the Classic Tracks and the dark
lighting actually helped (even if maybe too dark at
places). Finished in 20 minutes" - Mert (06-May-2017) |

"Not very interesting this level, based only about pulling switches to open doors, but at least there are many traps to avoid and a giant dragon to make things more difficult. The environments are good, but too dark for my taste; I think there is only one enemy to shoot (the bear) and the best was a well created atmosphere and the texturization. Playable." - Jose (25-Jul-2016) |

"Here's another level by a builder who had a burst of early
releases that garnered impressive scores, and then he just
stopped. In fact, his fourth and last release made the Hall
of Fame, so I hope that nothing tragic led to his abrupt
cessation of level building. This one was his debut release
and it has an abundance of good ideas. However, it's a bit
short at 30 minutes, and I became quickly weary of the
pervasive darkness. There's a nice little segment near the
end where you have to evade a dragon's fireballs while running
back and forth across its domain to push levers and open
doors. Yoav has provided an uncharacteristically wordy
walkthrough of a full page, and it covered the bases well.
It's a nice little tidbit to enjoy while you're catching your
breath between the more challenging levels." - Phil (17-Mar-2015) |

"In this short, fun and action filled level Lara has to find her way through a trap filled temple to find an artifact. The level was very dark; especially the first underwater maze was a bit of a pain as even with flares it was really hard to see. Once past that there weren't any problems since there I had plenty of flares and everything was very straightforward in general. The game play was not too easy but not too challenging either. I did pull all the switches in the room with many doors and ran out of ammo shooting Ahments. Most of the traps were easily avoided, but the big dragon shooting locusts and fire was a bit of as pain. The room with the ropes was a nice touch and actually quite easy to master, when Lara was lined up perfectly from the get-go. The atmosphere was enjoyable and a bit on the spooky side. Texturing looked very oriental and a bit hard to judge because of the darkness in many areas, but from what I could see it looked well done. A very good level and it would have been nice had it been a little longer. Definitely worth the download - 2 thumbs up! (30 minutes, 1 secret)" - Blue43 (28-Feb-2011) |

"A mini version of the TR2 Temple of Xian level and certainly my sort of gameplay: room after room of traps gauntlets monsters varied physical challenges; all overlaid with a threatening menacing atmosphere which means you shouldn't perhaps play it on your own after dark. The camera sequences were well done (particularly in the Dragon room) the level ended at the appropriate moment and the whole thing zooms along so fast that you really can't complain about anything except perhaps its comparative brevity. Well recommended." - Orbit Dream (28-Mar-2004) |

"Dark oriental level Doomsday rather than Barkhang. Very nicely textured. Right from the start you run a gauntlet of traps but they are not too difficult. The first enemy the bear is down below the entrance to a room but can be shot from the entrance. And from the start too I heard some peculiar sounds (no wonder the download was big) that made no sense to me so they were unnecessary and didn't create the spooky atmosphere intended. I don't know if it was my imagination or not but this level got darker and darker as you go along this fairly straight forward route until it was nearly impossible to see at all. Perhaps this was to give the room with the dragon more shockability. (There's a new word for you made it up all by myself). The dragon did burn me a few times so I'd recommend saving at each of the four floor levers. I thought the rope room was excellent simple and yet I've never seen it done before. And I thought the dragon room falling to bits with an earthquake very good too. Oh and it was nice to see the moving spike wall we don't often see that nowadays." - CC (07-Mar-2004) |

"Standard 19 minutes running around some more or less pretty environments (they're pretty but some areas needed more work) is how I can describe this level. It's very simple - pretty much TR2 alike - lots of traps and many switches/levers for the time it lasts but quite fun nonetheless. Nothing more I could add I think - give it a try if you want some thrills shooting the bear swinging the ropes avoiding traps and fiddling around the dragon near the end." - eTux (01-Dec-2003) |

"Based upon my opinion a good ambience - dark and scary; you will not know if in the next moment your head still remains on your shoulders or not. Begins without great things - but goes on step by step giving you the action you want. Spikewalls Ahmets Jumps Hangling .... until you find the Element. I found a Secret if there was one. Cameras and Sounds are ok and give intensity. Very good was the lava room - never saw one that impressed me so much. (little critical point - there was no water in the lavaroom when Lara falls down no splash) Something for your Eyes and a lot of challenge." - Miguel (16-Mar-2003) |

"Starting this level it looked so familiar and I had to think a bit before it hit me. Silent Death made by the same author. They do look so much alike that I had no problem getting through this one. Funny enough I liked Silent Death better. 24-02-2003" - Gerty (01-Mar-2003) |

"Twenty five minutes most of them in total darkness. When some people are going to realize that green textures and barely lighted rooms don't go together. The first maze was difficult to pass because of that. At least if the author had given flares but no just one pick up. The textures are very nice though but the level doesn't have any puzzles just traps and levers. The weapons are good for a bear and some mutants spike moving walls and spiked objects are used here. The dragon gave not much trouble as Lara caught fire only once. The locusts were irritating as always but the medipacks given were more than enough to go through this test as well. By picking up the desired artifact the level ends leaving you with just some bruises." - Kristina (07-Feb-2003) |

"Lexx did an awesome job in capturing the TR2 atmosphere for this level. The textures the background music everything reminds you the good old Temple Of Xian TR2 level. The level is very easy with the exception of one lava room where you are supposed to cross with ropes (I used jumps though because the space between the ropes wasn't really big and I didn't manage to jump correctly with them). It's a pity it's short - I finished it in 20 minutes. Nevertheless it's an enjoyable experience despite the little maze at the start. Also this level features one of Lara Severi's great outfits." - Treeble (30-Jan-2003) |

"What you get here is a fast run through a trap infested Asian temple. Short at only 25 minutes the moving through the level is not hard by any means even the 4 skull secrets were fairly easy to find but the most annoying aspect was the constant overwhelmingly heavy darkness that just sapped most of the enjoyment out of the level for me. All I can say is make sure you play this in a pitch black room and try not to reload in the spiked wall section or you may never know where they will magically pop up." - Sash (13-Dec-2002) |

"You run around in a good looking Chinese temple with various traps of rolling spikes poison darts underwater maze spiked walls ropes to swing and a finally a dragon just before you find 'the artifact'." - G.Croft (10-Sep-2002) |

"I wasn't too sure about this level at first as I didn't care too much for the poison dart filled underwater maze simply because it was so dark. I found the rest of it to be a well decorated obstacle course with a multiple rope jump room an underwater circular blade a fun room with the fire breathing dragon and a well done puzzle with a sliding block and a vertical wall of moving spikes. It was great to see those as I don't think they've been in a level since the original games. Some of the obstacles were a bit difficult but they were never difficult enough to be frustrating and the level was short enough that you didn't get tired of them before the end. I also found two golden skull secrets so I'm wondering if I missed one - I didn't go down into the room with the bear at all so there could have been one there. My only complaint is that the majority of the level is too dark - some of these same traps were in the original games but the rooms there weren't almost pitch black. It seems to be a growing trend though to make a level as dark as possible because it supposedly adds to the atmosphere I hope that changes soon." - RaiderGirl (09-Sep-2002) |

"The first work of Lexx is kept very dark. I did not like this so well. Certainly also the textures were well selected but were processed not so beautifully. Lexx has inserted a few new sounds and the cameras came well to the effect. The puzzles were rather standard sort to solve not very difficult. Lexx has presented a lot of effort and few opponents well placed. Particularly are to be emphasized traps I liked them best in the Level. 'A Level for the lunchbreak' is Lexx' own definition." - Xxenofex (13-Aug-2002) |

"A short and fun level with a good pace and some good ideas. The first time I see the wall of spikes of TR3 in action in a TR4 customlevel and other traps not often seen. A bear 4 ahmets one dragon one secret found. The camera work and the atmosphere are good the textures seem to be a little stretched. Finally Lara picks up the artefact in the Chinese temple after 28 minutes of decent raiding." - eRIC (11-Aug-2002) |

"This was a fun 40 minute level with lots of traps and hazards. Fairly linear you'll always know what you need to do next. This involves a poison-dart swim at the beginning to emerge in a cavernous building with many pitfalls the first of which is a bear waiting to pounce on you as you go for the pickups. This is quite good for a first effort I would have liked it to be longer as I was enjoying myself immensely trying to avoid all the traps set for Lara. Don't want to give everything away just be prepared on your quest for the artifact to end the level." - Momster (02-Aug-2002) |

"Now this is a level well worth a go. It has some really brilliant bits and pieces that are totally unique. The scene with the rotating knives in the water was very clever. There was a nice part with some walls and spikes-good stuff. For such a large download I expected a longer game but it only lasted an hour. A longer playing time would have merited higher marks." - Doug E (01-Aug-2002) |

"With only 30 rooms and linear straightforward gameplay this would be a rather ordinary run-of-the-mill level if not for the visually very impressive setting. Colourful in places gloomy in others you start with a small underwater maze then kill a bear safely from above and have several traps to avoid which make the less than half an hour of game time quite enjoyable in their variety. Flybys are excellently crafted. I found one golden skull secret and the only tricky passage was the multi-rope-swing-room. You get the Uzi shotgun crossbow and don't really need them and I still wonder what all the big soundfiles in the download were for as they did not quite register with me during play as something special. Finally outrun the pesky dragon with its fireballs and locusts near the end and avoid the moving spikewalls (great!) before picking up your well deserved artifact." - Michael (30-Jul-2002) |

"Surprisingly short level for such a large download. Nothing really difficult to do. A lot of rope swings easily done using F5. Some surprising traps and some excellent textures." - Fairy Godfather (28-Jul-2002) |

"You get 24 minutes of fast paced fun with a linear gameplay that won't have you pause for long to think about your next move. Don't let yourself be discouraged by the little underwater maze near the start the second one is equally harmless. True there are some faults to find. The ropes dangle a bit too low so that Lara swings cheerfully through the wooden planks the cute bear is the only thing you can test the fancy weapons on with 7 big medi packs in your possession the reoccurring locust attacks dwindle down to a unpleasant itch you get definitely too many levers for such a short exercise and there is a trial and error room where some levers bring you to goodies while others set the mutants free. Come to think of it that's probably what the weapons were for. But as the mutant is becoming an endangered species I decided to not open those doors. There are thrills aplenty along the way and the atmosphere is extraordinary for a tut level. Rather exquisite with delicate colouring and rather cosy rooms that give way to dungeonesque corridors and finally the game ends abruptly when you pick up the obscure object of desire. It's very entertaining for the time it lasts and should this be the authors first effort I reckon we're in for a real treat next time. I recommend this without reservations." - Dimpfelmoser (28-Jul-2002) |
