"3ki3ro’s debut (Kamifukuoka Lab) looked perfectly atrocious from the beginning all the way through to the end, but he has since learned a lesson or two. This, his latest, looks merely dreadful. The looks improve somewhat later on, as the blocky and wallpapered interiors are infinitely preferable over the mess of distorted textures and illegal slopes in the early outside area. Visually, this is a trainwreck. The construction, however, is not only sound, but quite excellent, and it makes for some interesting exploration. The level combines this with a number of tasks that can be quite challenging (in particular the stacked timed run across four trigger tiles), but it also takes the time to throw a few japes into the mix, one of which may well make you jump in your seat. Disappointingly, it fizzles out towards the end.
This is one of the few levels that actually warrant a remake, so as to deliver the gameplay from the claws of its abhorrent design and to provide a satisfying conclusion. The project file is part of the download. Who’s up for the task?" - Mulf (19-Jan-2021)
"Underwater scorpions? Oh, alright then. This is fairly routine level, enlivened by some quite entertaining timed aspects. It’s no masterpiece but, for the short time it lasts, it moves along at a lively pace." - Jay (23-May-2019)
"The initial area was rather bad, with quite a weird room geometry (especially as far as the floor is concerned) and the end of world easily reached/seen. It sort of picks up when it gets indoors, but it's still a whole lot of different things crammed into one (you have textures from four or five different themes here) and gameplay is extremely simple and linear, having you kill ninjas to steal hands and doing some minor exploring for two pieces of a cartouche. There were some weird novelties here, such as scorpions and mummies underwater and the rolling balls rolling through the treasure hoard... Still, you could do much worse for half an hour. 20 minutes. 03/18" - Treeble (18-Mar-2018)
"This level starts in a rather crude area that is riddled with illegal slopes, but I enjoyed myself despite all that simply because it's unintentionally hilarious at times. You have ninjas spawning from vases, underwater scorpions, and a boulder originating from a mound of gold. If you can forgive the somewhat patchwork texturing styles, then try it out as it won't take you long." - Ryan (23-Jun-2017)
"Moderate level in all senses. Some levers to pull, some artifacts to get and a multiple timed run to accomplish (not hard). Arleady from the very beginning you'll notice several defects: the ilegal slopes, the distorted and bad applied textures, you can reach the end of the world, etc. At least there is no much backtracking, and after some exploration you'll find your way to the inner areas of the temple. Many rooms are too dark, but I found enough flares and also guns and ammo to shoot the scorpions, white ninjas and mummies; I missed cameras when pulling levers but the triggered objects are not far; the room with the four pedestals and blue rays was a mystery for me, I never knew the purpose of that room. Not a good level but playable anyway." - Jose (26-Jul-2016)
"If you overlook the scrappy texturing, lack of lighting and somewhat off-putting illegal slopes of the opening area, what you find is a surprisingly fun and fast-moving romp and gamplay with a refreshingly amusing awareness of its own absurdities, viz. the Ninja's waiting patiently inside two large vases;the underwater scorpions;the boulder which rolls unexpectedly out of a large pile of treasure;the scorpion which falls onto Lara's shoulders. Added to this a fun and reasonably challenging timed gauntlet and you have a rather nifty little adventure." - Orbit Dream (25-Oct-2010)
"The setting is something between Egypt and castle like. Starting Lara has to find a few stars to deactivate firstly some spikes and secondly to open the door to the next area. Make sure you kill al your enemies they might have something for you. Those are ninjas scorpions and mummies. Most of the level is climbing a little crawling and swimming. The timed runs were interesting but nothing difficult. Getting the Uzi and some clips was a little challenging but that's about it. Give it a try; it's an easy one to help you relax from the big complicated levels." - Kristina (07-Aug-2003)
"Ok the author did say it was a tutorial level so all I'll say is the texturing is reasonably good and appropriate lighting throughout and enemies can be handled easily ninjas skeletons scorpions. Mainly Egyptian style level but not all. A couple of scary boulder parts. A .prj is provided for use." - CC (07-Apr-2003)
"Nicely easy to start with all you need do is kill ninjas to collect necessary pick ups I was surprised when I came to the timed run half way through that involved fire emitters and trigger tiles as it was quite a challenge. That though is the only challenge as after you only need avoid a handful of boulders that excuse me for saying this when dropping through a hole look like a giant is defecating and then get past a couple of mummies above and below water. Fun for the half an hour it lasted but there is plenty better out there." - Sash (04-Dec-2002)
"It was interesting to see all the different looks that were found in this level and turned out to be a good exercise gameplay wise with the timed runs spike and fire tiles boulders and other various traps as well as ninjas mummies and scorpions including those underwater. There are a few objects to collect along the way and I learned an important lesson in the 'treasure room': Don't get too greedy or you're likely to get flattened by a boulder." - RaiderGirl (28-Nov-2002)
"Although at first glance this level is much more than it looked. Finding that first lever that turned off a fire makes you want to explore that area. I got stuck many times in illegal slopes that I almost chucked it. But going a bit further into the area there are nice diversions to get the key pick up of this level the Cartouche and some important levers to pull. Swimming will show you that you cannot out-swim the current so go look elsewhere. Finding all kind of goodies I came across 2 mummies walking underwater and a couple of scorpions doing their damnedest to have a go at Lara underwater mind you. Almost at the beginning I had a scorpion falling on Lara eeww. And the ninja popping out of a jar like Ali Baba LOL. There are some broken grates to swim through and as mentioned before a timed run to extinguish some fire emitters. There is also a timed run to open the last door so go and look carefully as one crawlspace and one pole I overlooked for quite a while. Dodging the boulders will let you have a go at that enormous treasure that is laying there but Lara's backpack is almost full so I took only the compass cause you never know when she will need that. 23-10-2002" - Gerty (27-Oct-2002)
"A big mix of everything in this 'student made' level. The first area was a complete mess of slopes and I did a complicated strange jump up on the roof to get the uzis. The next area is better but still a little bit of everything. The following part gets better with its timed runs to avoid being burned and then finally do some swimming before discovering the treasure and find the way out." - G.Croft (29-Aug-2002)
"Yes it's a student project but I think they did an acceptable job with this. O.K. so there are some suspect textures and illegal slopes but it's still a decent half hour's gameplay and you must admit they did a pretty darn good job with those fire emitter runs. It took me quite a few tries to get it right between the timing and knowing which way you had to go to get by those 3 emitters and have time to get the lever pushed. Lots of hands to collect but for the most part the ninjas give them up and 2 halves of the cartouche one is a difficult pick up. Try it folks it's not half bad." - Momster (22-Aug-2002)
"Apparently this is a project that has been worked on by students and I think it is such a cool thought that you are actually having lessens about creating a custom level with the editor. Alas this work shows nothing too thrilling with its fairly linear progression and a very sudden end after 30 minutes which lead me to believe I may have missed exploring quite a few areas. Overall it is only pushing a few levers finding some hands and cartouche pieces and the two more interesting elements for me were the timed fire emitters and the nice camera when you emerge at the treasure near the end and while some of the textures chosen are beautiful they are however applied not too well and too mixed anyway so that the whole level seems a bit like patchwork. But it's a start and maybe more will come from the students there for the benefit of the worldwide TR community." - Michael (16-Aug-2002)
"Visually and gameplay-wise this level seems to be a first try. The rooms are rather huge and empty the textures on the walls look mostly tapestry-like. You meet the typical tut1 enemies (even underwater scorpions and -mummies ;o)) and some timed fire spitters. Both cartouche pieces are rather well hidden while the 'hands' are left by the baddies. I only found the grenade gun but the uzis also must be somewhere. All in all nothing spectacular but quite nice for some 30 minutes spare time." - Sheevah (11-Aug-2002)
"As it is mentioned in the read-me file this level is really a tutorial to show beginners levelbuilders some possibilities of the Editor. Obviously it shows also what must be avoided as there are many illegal slopes in the first area I think it has be done voluntarily. Lara must explore the surroundings of a castle climbing and making jumps on the structures to find two hands and a half of a cartouche rather enjoyable. Once inside the castle the atmosphere gets better. There is a good puzzle involving triggering tiles fire burners and a timed run to find the other half of the cartouche. Finally it is a good level of 30 minutes with different textures than the usual tutorial stuff." - eRIC (11-Aug-2002)
"Lara sets out in an awfully textured outside area and her aim is to find two Hands in order two open the first gate. Luckily for our heroine she doesn't have to search for them as the hands come to her. That's what I call customer friendly. Once you get inside the environment improves considerably while the gameplay remains rather simple. Only when you come to the timed run things get kind of interesting. Still you can cock up two jumps and still make it. A bit of climbing a bit of swimming some warriors of the desert to kill and that's it. I liked the amphibious scorpions and mummies as well as the whole underwater/sewer area. Here the gloomy atmosphere is rather convincing. Then you have to avoid a spiked boulder master another timed run (I think) and the final gate opens by itself. Nothing special but rather enjoyable all the same. Mind you it's not the common setting we come to expect from the tut levels." - Dimpfelmoser (11-Aug-2002)
