Reviewer's comments
"I guess I got lucky with the maze as I found the way out rather quickly, which in turn made this a very short raid. Not much to write home about though, shoot a few thugs, speed a bike across some sort of track, elect Star Wars and make your way in. The flare bug kicks in the only real area which stands out, which is a fire trap over shallow water (?!) with safe spots, and then just before the end you have to literally set Lara on fire to clear a trap sequence. Quite a few textures were stretched to oblivion (sometimes hidden by darkened lighting) and a few areas, such as the maze or the bike course, were somewhat monotonous. 15 minutes, 2 secrets. 04/20" - Treeble (19-Apr-2020)
"The insistence with which Dimpfelmoser kept buttonholing disinterested passers-by about London: Big Church / Underground may have had an adverse effect on me regarding that particular level, but otherwise I find myself quite often in agreement with him; in this instance, it extends beyond the level itself to his comment about the builder’s choice of movies. I should think the frequency of occasions on which Lara finds herself being set on fire (two mandatory, one optional, one booby trap) constitutes this level’s major achievement; but on the other hand, it takes the time to insert a maze which makes up about half of its brief duration. So when Cory says that his father claims Rüdiger’s levels are never dull, well, here’s proof to the contrary." - Mulf (02-Nov-2019)
"Not one of Ruediger’s best levels, but then it was one of his earliest. The gameplay isn’t awfully involving, although I really liked the musical hint for choosing the lever in front of the Star Wars poster. Undemanding but not very absorbing." - Jay (20-Aug-2019)
"Compared to Ruediger's other levels, this seemed a bit rushed and phoned in to me. The atmosphere isn't all that bad, and I liked the inclusion of some of the flybys and music, but I found the gameplay nothing to write home about and quite dreary after a while with a lot of corridor running, simple jump sequences and an irritating setting-Lara-on-fire sequence. Some people may enjoy this latter point, but to me it just seems like an unnecessary effort to force Lara to lose health. You might want to try this builder's later efforts as there is some more enjoyable stuff there." - Ryan (27-Jan-2018)
"Sorry by Ruediger, I think (I can't remember well, not sure) he was one of the first people who helped me when I started to build my first level years ago. Linear level easy to play, some enemies to shoot, some traps to avoid, a nasty maze near the beginning and a couple of rooms where Lara will burn (I never understood the need to do this). The rooms are very empty of objects, and the textures are not well applied in many panels. The best: the atmosphere. Playable but not very enjoyable." - Jose (08-Aug-2016)
"Oh boy have standards changed since those early years of the level editor community. And as the first new critique in almost a decade, I'm afraid to say that this is one of those levels that has honestly not aged well with the passage of time. Gameplay is fairly bland, texturing is quite repetitive, environments are generally lifeless(with barely any objects or even enemies present most of the time) and lighting mainly falls flat, with the flare bug popping up near the end in a fashion that could have been easily avoided. So at the end of the day, can't really recommend. So best to just skip this one nowadays." - Ceamonks890 (18-Jul-2015)
"Easy linear playing. There are some surprises, so save often. :-) In maze should be more lights and shadows to get the feeling of 3D environment. I had just enough medipacks to finish the game and I found two secrets. Very nice game and I like the end. :-)) I didn't know guard can kill the dog, I know now. :-)" - Oxy (07-Oct-2005)
"The level is great and your quest is to get inside the Cinema hall without a ticket. But this is a tough job as you'll have to overcome an obstacle course evade the Cinema Patrol crew along with flamethrowers and burn traps jump over burning pools. But there is no need to fear as the girl selected for this mission is perfect and knows what she has to do. And at last she is successful in her mission. The level is nicely designed Lara has a pretty nice costume on her. The part I liked was the burning pool after the bike obstacle course. I would like to rate it 7.5 on a scale of 10." - Anurag (09-Oct-2004)
"I've not played a level for quite a long time now and this is #15. This 25 minute level was I thought very good. As Dad said Ruediger's levels are never dull as you can see by looking at the bike ride and fire jump. A few stretched textures that's why I lowered the score. This level was very fun and since I've already beta tested two of Ruediger's levels there's nothing stopping me from playing all of them. An excellent level Ruediger keep up the good work." - Cory (28-Jun-2004)
"I gave an 8 for gameplay because the level is pretty challenging. I really liked the fire puzzle where Lara had to either lose a lot of health or die depending on where she was. The puzzle where there were the movie posters and the switches was interesting. Concerning the objects there are too many flame_emitters (flare bug). I liked the textures but some were stretched. I appreciated the sounds (especially the 'aha!' from Tomb Raider II and the Tomb Raider/Star Wars sound) and the cameras are well placed. Highly recommended." - Sakusha (11-Apr-2004)
"The Cinema in this little adventure is almost as fearsome a place as my local Multiplex but fortunately without the threat of hordes of aggressive teenagers so it's a bit of a stroll by comparison. That's not to say of course that the level is a dull experience; far from it. You have a fun motorbike ride; a good 'setting her on fire' sequence; as well as some straightforward jumping. The final poster/lever puzzle is neatly handled and the films on show at the theatre make for a decent piece of humour. All in all this is a decent 15 minutes of fun." - Orbit Dream (22-May-2003)
"I downloaded this before and couldn't open it. So when I got the .tr4 file I was delighted. Perhaps I had a different idea of what this level was about but it was definitely not this. A gloomy area with simple looking buildings with film posters on the wall i.e. Star Wars (now is that a hint?). Through a crawlspace to a very dark maze where you're attacked by locusts and bats and into a storage room and attacked by guards. A peculiar set-up with a machine gun firing at you and here you get the motorbike. The bike ride was interesting particularly at the end. Then you've got to make your way across a lava/water room. Now you've a big decision to make a line of switches against film posters to open the door. And strange as it might seem it's not Tombraider (was the previous hint taken?). Now we're in a tall and long blue room with jumps and climbs and at the end you see what I presume is your goal - into the cinema - but the game stops here. It would have been better if Lara had just paid her money at the front door to see the film if that was her aim." - CC (18-Apr-2003)
"I mean really when he invited me to the movies I never expected I'd have to spend 20 minutes going for a swim running through rat infested tunnels blowing away angry gun toting ushers going for a bumpy bike ride and then setting myself ablaze just to go catch a Star Wars flick. Sheesh next time I think I'll just stay home and rent a movie!" - Sash (03-Dec-2002)
"This is simply a stupid and boring level. Whatever possessed the author to come up with this idea? Lara must find a way into a locked cinema so she elects to go through the sewer take a bike ride and then almost burn to death twice and for what? To see Star Wars. Good Grief. Wait till it comes out on video. It just ain't worth the admission fee." - Torry (01-Dec-2002)
"All done a little listlessly is it?! You reach the end after 17 minutes and ask yourself: What was the point? And why was the Star Wars lever the right one? Where is the logic in that? And why is there a maze in almost every level I played recently? Are builders not listening to our complaints and wishes? There is a motorbike ride a few SAS guards to shoot a booby trap and a bit of jumping but nothing really to set your pulse racing. You can't help but suspect that the author just trashed this level out to have an excuse to display the movie posters of his favourite films. Well a crap selection at that. I liked the rats though." - Dimpfelmoser (19-Nov-2002)
"Lara's gone to the city and wants to go to the movies only they won't let her in wearing ripped jeans - so she decides to find another way in. Unfortunately the only other way in is through the sewers where she must deal with some locusts and a few bats and then through some back streets of the city with the movie police lying in wait for her. What a girl has to do to see a movie around here! There's an enjoyable bike ride though too short and some good jumping sequences near the end and then a switch puzzle with some music playing to guide you to the right one. I love movies so it was fun to see all the movie posters and enjoyed the level for the 20 minutes it lasted. Secrets found: 2" - RaiderGirl (01-Nov-2002)
"Well I made it into the cinema in under 20 minutes killing a horde of guards at one point a wild ride on a motorcycle with some jumps running through some fiery water popping medpacks all the way to jump in some safe water and put out my fiery self (lol). Then a multilevel room more fire danger there finding the right lever to open a door. Some jump sequences one of them catching Lara on fire once again and making for the water. Not much brainwork in this one no puzzles just straightforward danger. Not my cup of tea but you can't like 'em all." - Momster (05-Oct-2002)
"Short but not so sweet level. You start out in the open air and have to find your way into the cinema. Dodging bullets on the way. There is even a nasty sentry gun. Finding the motorbike so you can proceed. Do stop to enjoy the scenery and you might even find a secret. I found 3 in this level. Once you managed to cross the deadly water with the dead soldiers you have to pull one of the 10 levers. There are clues if you look good and listen good. There is also some nice block jumping and you will get burned but luckily there is water nearby. The firebug sets in right before the deadly water but you can continue without flares. What locust are doing in this level is beyond me the bats I had to shoot they are OK. I even saw some rats scurrying away. 30-09-2002" - Gerty (02-Oct-2002)
"For an over 7 MB download this is a rather short level. I played about 30 minutes. Lara has to walk endlessly. She finds a few things like Uzi Clips and the Uzi. She meets several SAS and at one time 5 SAS appear more or less at once. She has to get rid of bats. No other enemies. She finds a motorbike and the ride is fairly monotonous. A bit of a challenge was the crossing of the room with the fiery floor and at the end when Lara had to spend all medipacks to survive the fire on the floor till she reached some water. There is no story and for me there was no excitement in the level. I found 3 secrets." - Monika (02-Oct-2002)
"Nothing really impressive in this level. It has some nice touches like the burning water and the room with the movie posters also the motorbike ride is fun but really not much to do. I think the atmosphere though is a bit too spooky for a 'trip to cinema' with all the sentry guns and dead SAS men. As you approach the burning water the flare bug occurs and the only way I found to master this room was dashing straight through the water to a safe spot. Nothing very exciting here but if you have about 15 minutes to spare you can try this level." - eTux (01-Oct-2002)
"A night at the movies does not seem to be what it used to be that's the least you can say about this short level. Instead of just paying your ticket poor Lara has to go through an obstacle course where she has to confront a maze is being shot at has one B-I-I-I-I-I-G surprise after opening a door (you'll never open a door again without fear) has to use a motorbike to get over ramps and is being used as a live piece of barbecue. The sound puzzle was a dead give away (must admit I got burned first ouch!)" - bERT (01-Oct-2002)
"Nothing too interesting about this level. No story line or any reason for getting into the theatre. The atmosphere failed for me. I always like underwater features so enjoyed that part. Nice try if this is the first level for the writer." - Sherry (01-Oct-2002)
"This is a short 20 minutes run through a fairly standard City environment with its gloomy atmosphere at the start and it includes a bike ride with a few not so tricky jumps some jumping on foot and some exploring in a maze-like underground area. Nothing overly exciting here: found an Uzi had to run past a sentry gun shoot a few SAS and bats endure some locusts and picked up two secrets along the way. What I liked though was the nice touch with those movie poster textures a few happily thrown in flybys and camera angles and if you listen well you won't even burn in the 9 lever room." - Michael (28-Sep-2002)
"This is a fifteen minutes level with some bugs in it starting in a very green atmosphere. Mostly it has very large open spaces with poor textures and a lot of SAS guards in one room with not enough medipacks along with a sentry gun in another room. After getting the Uzi and a little swimming you get to ride the bike and now comes the first bug. If you try to get the bike across to the other side after the small pools and the jumps the game crashes to the desktop what you need to do is to let the bike slide into the little pit and continue on foot. After that you have to cross a burning pool with only a few clear paths in the water. The next thing is to find the right lever and open the door which will lead you after some more jumps to the end. The walls are covered with posters from movies of course this is a level about a cinema I also found one secret. I didn't really see any interesting parts in it but it was a nice try anyway." - Kristina (28-Sep-2002)
