Reviewer's comments
"Short but sweet. Despite being nearly 20 years old, this level has a quite unique flavor with plenty of custom textures, and the combination of teal and grey textures hit the spot for me. On the other hand, objects come from all sorts of sets, so you have Egyptian, Cambodian and Peruvian objects all mixed together along the way, but that in no way affect my enjoyment of the level. It's rather linear, setting you off on a few quests for keys and puzzle pieces through some series of traps and a somewhat elaborate pushblock puzzle, but it's never obscure so it made for a fast paced and fun raid. Definitely worth checking out. 35 minutes. 04/20" - Treeble (12-Apr-2020)
"A very decent level for such an old one – well made, attractive, good gameplay and I really liked the load screen music. There are some most enjoyable traps etc., and the whole atmosphere just really appeals. What a shame that such a promising builder only made two levels and one collaboration." - Jay (04-Nov-2019)
"I thought this was a refreshing debut effort in a number of ways and a definite enjoyable raid. The use of customised textures gives it a very polished look and feel, and ensures that it still comes across as visually pleasing even years after its release. Plenty of traps here indeed (particularly of the spiky type) but there's more than enough variation in the gameplay, so the enjoyment factor definitely remains intact throughout, and enemies provide an invigorating challenge (luckily I did locate the Shotgun and Grenade Gun). Great entertainment in a neat little package." - Ryan (28-Jan-2019)
"Great little level of around 40 minutes in the traditional format that is quite enjoyable. Traps are nicely done where timing is all important and a rather tight timed run up a series of ledges that requires a few tries to master. Progress is logical and you need not refer to the walk through at all. Whilst you find both the shotgun and the grenade launcher you do not really need either as you can get through with just your trusty pistols." - Torry (02-Oct-2018)
"Good work. Here we have a solid level with an excellent architecture and perfect texturization. The gameplay is good too, and it's difficult to get stucked; there are good puzzles in the left path from the receptacles, and the timed run is not tight; the right path is not so good, with some repetitive tasks with all those spikes and climbing all four poles. The worst: I never found the shotgun or the grenade gun and I had to shoot all the hard enemies (big spiders and demigods) only with the pistols. Even so it was an entertaining level worth to play for me. Take a try; you'll not regret." - Jose (12-Aug-2016)
"Great minds, and all that: I stumbled upon this level after it appeared randomly on the main page of TRLE.Upon closer examination,I realised that it was a level I'd completely overlooked over the years,so I immediately downloaded it. I now discover that Phil got there one day earlier;so,after not having received a review in 9 years,it suddenly gets two in the space of just a few days...and a highly enjoyable level it is,too. A few custom textures and lots of creative (often thought-provoking) gameplay make this adventure appear somewhat ahead of its time.In fact, the variety of challenges on offer is really rather refreshing - a tight timed run;lever puzzles;a rolling boulder;plenty of enemies;an intelligent pushable puzzle;and a terrific sequence of spike traps keep things buzzing swiftly along.Enemies are well chosen;cameras are helpful;while texturing is immaculate. More could have been done with lighting,as it often feels disappointingly flat - but that's a pretty minor gripe for a level which, after ten years, still comes across as fresh and entertaining." - Orbit Dream (10-Apr-2012)
"This is a nice little level that's approaching its 10th birthday as I write this. It lives up to its name, with a variety of obstacles that will bring Lara to a quick demise if she's not exploring with eyes open. I used the walkthrough provided by Anya Marie McDonald, who hasn't been seen around here lately, and even with its help I required nearly an hour to complete the level. There's a nice use of levers and buttons to disable spikes and raise cages to get you through one area, and a central building at the end that's riddled with passages and pushblocks and fixed camera angles, requiring a good sense of direction so you can continue to move along without getting lost. Not a classic, but fun." - Phil (09-Apr-2012)
"The level begins by a new and beautiful title with new music showing the surroundings of the temple that Lara will raid. What impressed me most was the new texturing and the perfect lighting. The gameplay is not bad at all and very fluent the puzzles are not difficult but well made this level is a very good surprise and very Tomb raider related." - eRIC (23-Mar-2003)
"This is worth the download as I love to watch a title flyby and the audio files do add to this level. Texture wise I found this great looking level. Puzzle wise I am not that sure as I had no problem with the spike one the pushing block puzzle took a long time to solve as it isn't that clear what one needs to do. Lots of levers some you need to solve the puzzles and others do open doors. Finding keys to progress through this level and why the Hand of Sirius is called a Canopic jar is beyond me. The timed run was a bitch but with a couple of practice jumps I made it. The spiders were a novelty to have for an enemy although some of the big ones made me jump in my chair. Found one secret the grenade gun. 03-02-2003" - Gerty (05-Jan-2003)
"Usually each level I play has a similarity to another that I always feel as though I've been here before though this isn't always a bad thing but entering this one it just felt really fresh to me. The textures used are just lovely or maybe it's just the way they have been placed together whatever it may be I just loved them. This 40 minute level also has a really nice flow of puzzles movable blocks levers and raising metal cages a timed run and traps that were usually spike related but I would have liked maybe a few more enemies as coming across the giant spiders were such thrilling confrontations and a couple more secrets would have been fun to go in search of but nonetheless this is a short but wonderful debut level." - Sash (24-Dec-2002)
"Karlo has put a lot of effort into his first work :-). Above all the textures were very cleanly finished in the temple and with much care. Especially custom textures were used and that pleased me very well. The puzzles were not too easy after all especially the timed doors. My Lara had to try those a few times. ;-) Apart from that many levers are to be pulled many traps to overcome. Lara must here find many keys and a star to get to the two pillars. Opponents were spiders and demigods. I also liked the title sequence with the sound a lot. At the beginning it showed the temple. The end was also well designed :-) Would recommend it to everysbody." - Engelchen Lara (21-Dec-2002)
"Considering how good his first level is I expect we'll see this author's work in the Top 50 list sometime in the future. Starting with great music and a very professionally done new title flyby it just gets better and better with some classic Tomb Raiding music and sounds great puzzles (even the pushable block puzzle is fun!) and some of my favorite enemies (the large and small spiders) all enhanced by the great textures and camera work. It took me about 45 minutes to find the knot and pillar needed to escape from the tomb I was 'trapped' in and I'll definitely replay this someday just to find that obviously well hidden secret that I missed." - RaiderGirl (24-Nov-2002)
"This is a nice easy going level. Not too many nasty people about but some very pretty spiders and their mum. Lara's outfit was good but I felt she was a little underdressed for winter work if needed. There was quite an unusual spike run where you had to run fast to avoid a sharp bit up the rear. I have to admit the timed run from a switch eluded me and I had to call on help to complete that bit. A good level and a good effort." - Doug E (18-Nov-2002)
"Alright it is really a big download for 40 minutes of gameplay but I dare say it is worth it because the audio files and the title flyby are eye candy and the level itself is awesome to look at. I really loved the texturing of the sandy caverns and the very realistic looking setting inside with those faces on the walls - maybe a little more could have been done with lighting. Enemies are known but very suitable (spiders big and small bats and demigods). The gameplay has a bit of nice platforming action and deals a lot with spikes you need to maneuver your way around to acquire two Rusty keys two Copper keys and a Silver key. Of course there were way too many levers in here even though some of the combinations were quite smartly built. I also enjoyed the use of movable blocks and after placing the Pharos Knot and Pharos root you are out of there and rewarded with another nice camera shot. Excellent fun and can't wait for a next level by this author which hopefully will hold the same beauty and a little extra gameplay." - Michael (02-Nov-2002)
"Like many people I don't usually expect too much from someone's first level because a person's first level is usually simply the result of them learning what the level editor can do. What a pleasant surprise we have with this one. It's not in the least bit contrived and it has a lovely balance of puzzles and traps. Another bonus is that there's not really anywhere for you to get stuck (although jump switches can be a bit hard to see at times). There's a great timed run and some impressive camera work and also unusual for a first level you won't be besieged by enemies at every turn. One of the things I liked most was the texturing - there are lots of turquoise bits to break up the sandstone and marble - this really helps to give it a nice unique feel and as such the atmosphere pulled me in right from the start. All in all this is a refreshingly good debut and I had a lot of fun playing it. I think that this author is going to provide us with some terrific levels in the future - definitely one to watch." - Bex (02-Nov-2002)
"Exceptionally well done first effort. Texturing and lighting are very attractive and gameplay was fun. A puzzling thinking level with as you'd expect traps to impede Lara's progress. Quite a bit of lever pulling but necessarily so to raise and lower blocks to move ahead. I spent a little over an hour in this enjoyable level didn't find the one secret though and look forward to more offerings from this author." - Momster (02-Nov-2002)
"Good atmosphere nice textures a fun level all together. The spike traps in addition with the switches that the player has to use more than once was the most interesting part. Mostly it is about pulling switches finding keys get through a puzzle with movable blocks and opening doors I guess everything is so well placed and combined that makes it enjoyable. The puzzles are a hand and a pharos pillar with another hole for an item that might fool you. A lot of demigods small spiders and a couple of big ones are your enemies also there is one secret the grenade gun that I didn't get to use. I have to admit though that for such a big download I was expecting more nevertheless it was quite good try it." - Kristina (01-Nov-2002)
"Quite impressive for a first level as there are no beginner bugs the gameplay is at a very acceptable level and the textures and lighting absolutely wonderful! The gameplay involves a great timed run up a broken staircase and a good spike + switch puzzle. Pity that later more and more switches appeared for you to push and less jumps timed runs and things like that but the level plays a lot better than many others so it's maybe not so tragic after all. The look of the level is really great very very good for an Egyptian level and the fly-bys magnificent. Maybe the download was a bit too big for a 45 minute adventure but if this doesn't bother you then get this level!" - eTux (01-Nov-2002)
"Nice little level with a lot of switches a lot of spikes and a timed run but all in good fun. Greenish textures that work well with one motive - the male head - that looked familiar (think it's from an older video or pc-game). Enemies with new colors little spiders with blue-green legs look 'fashionable' and funny as do the big spiders. Nice music. Well done title-movie. Did not find the secret. Good to play in between the bigger levels. For a first level certainly very well done." - bERT (01-Nov-2002)
"What a great little adventure. Karlo has done everything right here and I enjoyed all 45 minutes I spent in this level. The gameplay is highly entertaining and offers a great variety of tasks such as a brilliant timed run a great chase through spikes and two clever puzzles; one where you have to lower spikes and raise grates and one where you have to push and pull some blocks. It's all set in a traditional tomb that nevertheless has a very personal note and is done very professionally. In between there are some more jumps to perform a lot of keys to find and quite a few levers to push. As enemies you get the increasingly popular spiders (big and small) and two demigods but most of the time you wander around in peace. Music and cameras are put to good use and I especially liked the final cut scene. The level isn't that difficult but that's part of the appeal I think as it has a really nice flow and you can't get stuck. A very promising debut and I dare say that Karlo is a builder to watch in the future. See for yourself." - Dimpfelmoser (30-Oct-2002)
