Reviewer's comments
"a simple and easy level all over in 10 mins after you find a couple of items in sneaky places, kill some men, avoid some spike and fire traps in a booby trapped corridor, jump to a new room and approach a gate to finish. i was just starting to really get into it all when oh dear its all over again lol. textures and lighting were good inside but not outside and theres a couple of music tracks to add some atmosphere which was nice but once again it another home level that fails on substance" - John (10-Aug-2021)
"Not unlike the other offering from this author, here's a short romp using standard tut1 assets, but inside a manor this time around. Pretty much the same rules apply, however, as in lighting only exists to conceal points of interest. Every dark corner is either hiding a pickup, a climbable wall or a crawlspace. And that's about it, really. 10 minutes, 2 secrets. 09/20" - Treeble (27-Sep-2020)
"This is a fairly pedestrian take on a Home Level which offers not much in the game play area and nothing in the puzzles area. You locate the two pieces of the Eye of Horus (which you then combine to find a secret) which you have to find to proceed in any event, so not so secret after all. A few Ninjas abound about the house but other than that, seven minutes and you are done." - Torry (23-Jul-2018)
"City? Well, not a city but only some rooms of a mansion. Pick up two eye pieces and a hand near the end, shoot some ninjas and no more. The lighting is well worked, but I couldn't find nothing special or interesting in this short level. Playable anyway." - Jose (25-Jan-2018)
"Oof, that ended extremely abruptly. All you do in this 10 minute level is shoot a few ninjas, collect a few artifacts and avoid a few easy traps. A couple more ninjas later, the level finishes." - Ryan (26-Dec-2016)
"Another standard Home level that finds you having to contend with a few random ninjas throughout the place, as you track down a few easy items needed to progress to the end, with a deadly sequence of traps being more or less the high point of the general experience. So if the brief description I've provided sounds right up your alley, then give it a playthrough at the very least(although don't expect it to last very long and you should have a fairly comfortable time.)" - Ceamonks890 (29-Jun-2015)
"OK, OK. Have a translation of the readme at last: "Lara Croft purchased a mansion in Italy and settled there for holiday. One day, returning from a walk, she hears that in the farthest rooms of her new house, there is an artifact capable of transporting people back and forth in time. What is more, other people are also searching for the "Star of time". Your mission is to help Miss Croft get out of the house through (fighting) those enemies, and find the artifact before they do." So, no matter if "villa" means "mansion" or "city", because as long as the mansion is a part of the city, I don't see a problem discussed for several years already. For the level: it's short, but the lighting is good and the mansion is well-textured, so the whole thing is relaxing, despite of the ninjas and egyptian stuff. The star one can find appears to be a quest item, and that's why there's no keyhole for it - so I don't think the lack of the slot is a mistake. Of course, the secrets and cameras both get 0. But I heard some nice sounds here. SUMMARY: Short, but nice try as for me. If you have 10 minutes, you can learn this level by heart. If you have 5, you can do a speedrun. Have a go on this level - you won't lose much time." - DJ Full (14-Nov-2010)
"There somebody has probably been sloppy with the translation of the level name. In any case, in the Readme nothing stands of a town. To the level itself one cannot say a lot. It is a house level. Indeed, the house is very small, thus one must explore only few rooms. There are a few dark places at which one finds then as a rule also something. A few Baddies are also present. The textures are standard. The same one is valid for the sound. After about 10 minutes one is at the level end. Result: For the quite small level hunger occasionally" - Scottie (07-Sep-2009)
"A short level but I don't know why it is called 'Mystery of the City'. I couldn't find anything which gave me the impression of some mysteries. It takes place in a house and there are some rooms. In them Lara can search for things. And a few guys are waiting for Lara but the shotgun is a good answer. Medipacks are enough and the ammo too. Lara is looking for the eye of Horus to open the door which leads to the end of the level. She also finds the Hand of Sirius but it has no use. Soon after finding the hand the level ends. I found two secrets and I heard the secret sound on two places but there was nothing to find." - Avmaster (23-May-2004)
"Mystery indeed. Despite the title it's a mansion level and it's based on a Tut1 wad so the place is stuffed full of Egyptian artefacts. Well I expect Lara would have brought the odd souvenir back with her from all those travels in Egypt although perhaps keeping a ninja in the bathroom is going a bit too far. Actually I think the translation from the Italian should read the mystery of the villa so perhaps that's one part of the conundrum solved. Run around for a few minutes find a revolver and laser sight the eye of Horus and a hand and shoot a few ninjas. The end." - Jay (06-May-2004)
"I thought by the name the action in this 7 minute yes only 7 minute level would take place in something more metropolitan but what you get is really a dummied down mansion level with a handful of ninjas the two pieces of the Eye of Horus and a Hand to collect and one secret you have to stand on and can not miss even if you put your heart and soul into trying to miss it. That pretty much says it all more a demo than a real level." - Sash (24-Jan-2004)
"Although it is made with a tut.tom this is a house level. Finding the Eye of Horus is your goal here. The only enemies you encounter are ninja's. After placing the Eye you encounter some traps spikes the wrong way luckily they are not so deadly and after finding a Hand the game is finished. For a first not a bad one 09-12-2003" - Gerty (23-Dec-2003)
"A rather simplistic rendition of Lara's Home with two eye pieces to find and use in a secret area to leave the level after only about 5 minutes. There are a few ninjas a hand as your prize and I did like the use of some camera angles. The dark corners were a bit unnecessary though as they did not hide anything anyway." - Michael (15-Dec-2003)
"This game consists of up to 10 rooms which are not very tricky! Lara found 2 secrets but it was less to find them because they are direct on Lara's way. Some Ninjas are crossing Lara's run but were not very difficult. The only bit exciting was finding the second half of the Eye of Horus and a run through very annoying spikes. Lara needs less than half an hour to continue with her next adventure." - Mannix (14-Dec-2003)
"If this is a first effort then I'll give credit for it; but I feel totally non-plussed. It's a rejigged Mansion (not a city) level that is more like a bungalow with Egyptian objects and columns and the eponymous ninjas and you find the eyepieces very quickly (my gametime 8 minutes but that's because I went into all empty rooms to have a look). Absolutely for beginners." - CC (10-Dec-2003)
"Another level which should have a warning 'Do not play after a Night Shift!' attached to it. The 2nd part of the Eye piece is very well hidden in plain sight and kept me puzzled for ages. As for the rest it's very quick and straightforward but quite pleasingly put together although all Raiders will feel duped - there's no City here; it's just another Home level! Well I suppose we have to be made to play them somehow." - Orbit Dream (09-Dec-2003)
"A short version of the mansion with the Egyptian element added which made it look weird and ugly. There is the Eye of Horus to find and a hand which I didn't use. Lara walks around in the small usual rooms and there was a secret sound two times but I didn't understand what for as you had to pass from those areas to finish the level anyway. Ninjas are the enemies and I finished in five minutes or so." - Kristina (09-Dec-2003)
"Where's the city? Short level in Lara's House easy gameplay; two Objects to find kill some baddies and that's all." - Yoav (08-Dec-2003)
