Reviewer's comments
"Mixed feelings towards this one (I don't remember the original, will check my review for it after writing this one down). While I appreciate the thought of a snowy holidays adventure in Lara's house, I felt the snowmobile segments were more annoying than anything else - and while Harry did the best he could to provide directions it hardly made sense so I ultimately did that area blindly - and later on while ransacking Lara's neighbor houses it was more of a chore than anything else. The villa was nicely done, but running around from one switch to the next got old too fast. On the other side, not only the snowy Croft Manor atmosphere but also the super cute opening and ending cutscenes were great. (And I forgot but apparently they were also present in the original version, as per my own 2005 review which I've just looked up. 'Rating criteria meltdown' activate!). 35 minutes, 4 secrets. 02/22" - Treeble (27-Feb-2022)
"A short and simple xmas home level was what i looking for today, and thats what i got! well mostly anyway because the second half the level is actually in a village and snowy outside areas. theres a couple of cutscenes to explain that the mission is to find some decorations for the xmas tree and you start off in the mansion and have to explore, pushing aside furniture looking for several levers and jump levers to order to trigger the front door to open, its very similar in textures and layout to the tr2/3 mansion and once you get outside there is a timed assault course which was quite tricky but fun and theres some platforming and jumping around to find some secrets which was an added bonus, once youve found the key to the gate its off to the village on your snowmobile navigating past snowy hills and inclines. in the village area the gameplay involves mainly going from building to building finding keys, switches and the desired decorations which when you take back to the mansion finishes the level quite nicely. i had a fun time here with this well made level the only thing i missed was maybe more time in the mansion" - John (16-Jul-2021)
"Winston's gone and got himself into a right old mess again: this time he's breaking the baubles for the Mansion's Christmas tree and requiring Lara to go on a lengthy walk to buy (or rather steal) replacements. The assault course requires an attempt to retrieve one of many necessary keys, and there's also an enjoyable snowmobile ride and some village exploration. The secrets are also sneakily hidden and provide a nice little side quest (one of which was so sneaky I overlooked it for a while). A nice, pleasant level without the feeling of tedium and a recommended level.u" - Ryan (01-Dec-2017)
"A few more actions in and around the house (including a nice timed run and some secrets) and a large snowmobile course are the main new features of this remake which otherwise stays pretty close to its original. The storyline is still nice and well implemented with great cutscenes. Still the exploration of the village could've been somewhat more diverse and there are a lot of levers and keys around. The visuals are also slightly better here IMO with stronger lighting and still clean texturing. All in all a nice and welcome revisit of a charming setting, found 5 secrets in 25 minutes." - manarch2 (20-Dec-2016)
"Very nice remake with again clumsy Winston and who hasn't let one or two ornaments fall down and shatter. Oh well, it is the start of a small adventure for Lara. Nice little Xmas level with a nice story and lots of exploring to do. Well worth to play though." - Gerty (10-Nov-2016)
"The core is the same, the mood is the same and the cameras are mostly the same but the scenery was extended both with close- and open-space. As much as I was relieved the previous version skipped the manor, I enjoyed what it was filled with in this update: interaction has been improved with challenge, is much more dense and long live the haunted piano. The village part is also a bit better though there are again just four balls to find. The mountain bike park is another nice addition however I would like that snow field to be made of more than ONE texture, and the secret out there was indifferent from the edge of graphics, so the walkie gave me a little help. But all blends together so well I cannot even tell who is responsible for which part, and in the end I was satisfied enough to park the snowmobile in Lara's garden crawlspace so it doesn't rust in the snow but waits safely for the next part (???). Nice work, you two." - DJ Full (16-Feb-2016)
"A pleasant holiday level we have here, but I think some of the gameplay was a filler. Too much levers and closed doors, but the main task - finding the decoration for the Christmas tree was fun. I'm not a big fan of the snowmobile but the little bit with it was okay. Lara's new obstacles and home looked nice too. Not a bad level at all, but I think with some more little and original puzzles it could've been even better." - misho98 (21-Dec-2014)
"This is a nice little exercise that starts off as a house level at Christmas time. Winston has had a little accident, some of the ornaments have been knocked off the tree and shattered, and Winston is taking his sweet time cleaning up the mess. In the meantime, Lara has to go out and find replacements, and this requires an extended trip on the motorbike (which you first need to access) to a small remote village. Even with the walkthrough it took me nearly an hour and a half to complete the mission, and I found it to be quite enjoyable. You have to do quite a bit of running around, and a return trip to the main house is needed to trigger the ending sequence, but I never experienced a sense of tedium or boredom. Recommended." - Phil (27-Feb-2007)
"When I began to play I think: "Oh, no, another Lara's home level!" But fortunately It wasn't so. Into and around the house you'll not lose too much time and once you get the snowmobile you'll explore a beautiful small village and the snowy mountains. Gameplay is not very good 'cause there's not cameras to help you for a no-lineal level, and although you pick up and "read" the scroll (in german language) could be a camera shot to show you where to go when you have the four balls (I supposed I had to get back to the mansion only for the number 4 in the note). Good animations at the beginning and at the end, nice christmas environment and good ambience, but puzzles only consist about looking for keys to open doors and pull switches. A good level anyway." - Jose (15-Feb-2007)
"I love Lara's home levels and if the rooms are the same than in the original I love it more. Some rooms have been added and also there's a door that leads to the village. The gameplay is fluid, there are no enemies and the last goal is to get some coloured balls to decorate the Christmas Tree. That balls are hidden sometimes very well. The atmosphere is christmassy and nice. I love it and I think it's a great work." - Loupar (19-Jan-2007)
"This Advent level was simpler than some of the others and with Winston trying to decorate the Christmas tree. Seeing him with the broom sweeping away the smashed balls was funny and because of that Lara has to search for some balls now so the tree doesn't look empty. She has to search houses and use the snowmobile to collect those colourful balls in a snowy setting of course. It was quite pleasant and I found four secrets." - Kristina (18-Jan-2007)
"The cutscenes at the beginning and the end are still so great and worth loading this one up all by themselves. In this remake the gameplay must have been extended quite a bit, as my net game time at 40 mins was about double vs the level 2 years ago. After managing to leave the mansion, you get a lot of exploring to do with a snowmobile which is great fun to do although it is easy to get a little lost in the area. The village is nicely designed but it is a bit tedious to hunt for all the keys and switches. The search of all the golden rose secrets does provide a nice side adventure though, so do not miss out on those." - MichaelP (15-Jan-2007)
"Winston has been a butterfingers with the Christmas decorations. Frankly, he's made nearly as much of a mess of Lara's tree as my kitten made of mine this year (but not quite). Lara has to visit the nearby pretty little village to find replacement ornaments, but this time she gets to do it in style on a snowmobile. I played and enjoyed the original level and this version is an enhancement, with additional areas both in and outside the mansion." - Jay (02-Jan-2007)
"Is this remake as good as the previous one ? yes it is and infact, its better. The usual beginning terrific cutscene is still there and the mansion and village are still there with afew rooms added. Before you leave off for the village, you have to do afew things in Lara's mansion and around it (which I thought was really fun) after that you take the snowmobile to the village to get 4 ornaments for the christmas tree instead of the ones Winston broke. The village was nice looking with afew changes (and afew areas added on the way to the village). It took me around 40 minutes to finish it...nice level!" - Shady Croft (27-Dec-2006)
"History repeats itself, Winston still clumsy :). There are much improvements in this remake, both in gameplay and design. Lot of new areas in Lara's house and outside too, they look good. The old areas mostly the same, the few changes are for the better, like the little pushing object puzzle. The snowmobile ride was fun. Lara still thieves the decorations, which is not good. But apart from that, now the level is much better." - Akcy (26-Dec-2006)
"I vaguely remember playing the original December 19th and I know I had fun playing it. The remake has several differences including a snowmobile, which made it lots more fun. I only found one of five secrets, pretty pathetic. I really wanted to get the one I could see through a ground window, but no dice, oh well! I had a really fun time looking for the ornaments, but I wished there was more Christmas music and festive decorations. There were nice cutscenes with music and of course the cutscenes at the beginning and end with Lara and Winston were great and funny." - Shandroid (24-Dec-2006)
"This christmas level was a great experience. It was familiar; a part of it comes from an older christmas-level, but it was remade and extended. You have to find 4 christmas-tree ornaments (Balls) in a small village as well, and for this you have to discover more switches and levers and find keys of course. You also have to ride the motorbike to an icy valley; riding on the edges of the rocks. There are 5 secrets on the level, and for them you have to open you eyes wide. A little practise on the training course is also necessary - at least for a key. :) The textures are wonderful, the sounds are great, I can only suggest to play it. You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version), savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.hu/16/19th_december_remake.htm" - Obig (22-Dec-2006)
